Hello.
Thanks for joining us at Kairoticast.
Our goal at Kairoticast is to show that rhetoric, with all its big, academic and effete sounding ideas, is really quite applicable to our every day lives.
We will be looking at rhetoricians, rhetorical theory, and critical concepts from across the history of rhetoric and showing how they pop up in current discourse all the time – this is as much a podcast/blog about current events as it is about anything academic.
Our hope is that you’ll join us in this journey regardless of your academic background. We’re hoping that we appeal to people beyond the usual ivory-tower types. After all, we are trying to show how this is applicable in our every day lives, and it’s every day people who are involved in that.
Basically, we want to move beyond the navel-gazing – which is why we’re going to focus on what is going on in the world right now.
Kairos is an old idea, but it sort of means saying the right thing at the right time. It’s the idea that truth comes from its context. At Kairoticast we’re hoping to make sense out of our current contexts with a little bit of help from the subject of rhetoric. That’s it. That’s the plan.
Thanks for checking in with us. If you have questions or suggestions for how we could help you understand anything, or how we could improve ourselves, drop us a line – you can reach Elizabeth at elizabeth@kairoticast.com or comment on the blog here. We’d love to hear from you. Check out the blog and let us know what you think!
